Make the with Italian Sausage or Turkey Sausage, Easy to Make and a Fan Favorite!
Well this is my first “New” recipe that I have created since my brain surgery in November. This was a modified recipe, based off a sausage roll my mom made using Bisquick growing up. I made a few changes, using Mama’s Pancake Mix instead (to be gluten free), using an Italian Sausage verses the pork breakfast sausage, made a turkey version with added spices for those who don’t like pork sausage, (like my kids), and added green onions. Make your favorite dipping sauce to go with them or use Honey BBQ sauce for the Pork Italian Sausage version and for the Turkey Version add 1 cup BBQ sauce and 1 cup Cranberry Sauce and simmer until reduced to a nice sauce. I made these for my family, 1 batch of each mind you, we are a family of 7, and well lets say there were no leftovers by bedtime. These are perfect appetizers for holiday parties, football parties and potlucks!
Ingredients (Italian Pork Sausage Version)
1 lb Italian Pork Sausage (casings removed)
1 Cup Mama’s Pancake Mix
2 Heaping Cups of Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1 Tbsp. Parsley
2 Green Onions, sliced thin
Salt and Pepper (a couple pinches of each)
2 Tbsp. Olive Oil (For added Moisture)
Ingredients (Turkey Breakfast Sausage Version)
(Now if you can find in your supermarket Turkey Italian Sausage, follow instructions above. If you can only find the breakfast sausage version, add these extra ingredients below.)
1 lb Turkey Breakfast Sausage (casings removed, if any)
1 Cup Mama’s Pancake Mix
2 Tbsp. parsley
2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. paprika
2 pinches of cayenne pepper or red pepper
2 heaping cups cheddar cheese
3 green onions, sliced thin
2 Tbsp. olive oil, for added moisture
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with foil and lightly spray with cooking spray.
In a bowl, add sausage, spices, cheese, and onions. Massage all ingredients evenly into sausage. Add 1-2 Tbsp. of olive oil necessary to make the sausage ball slightly moist. Pinch off about 1 1/2 inch of sausage pieces and roll into balls. Place on baking sheet 1/2 inch apart.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown. Flip the foil over onto bowl or plate and gently peal away each sausage ball. Place on serving plate. SERVE WARM!
SUPER EASY!!!!
For the Turkey Sausage you can make a tasty dipping sauce by mixing 1 cup BBQ sauce with 1 cup Cranberry Sauce and simmer until combined and reduced to a nice smooth sauce. For the Italian Sausage just a Honey BBQ sauce is great!
